Jay has a point.  It is usually unnecessary to send to the author as 
well as to the list.  Since the author is a list member he gets the 
message twice.

The exceptions may be those of us that like to use the digest option.  
For us, it may take as much as a day to get a message through the list.

I suggest that everyone assume that they should post only to the list as 
their default.  If a particular person wants to receive direct replies 
to a particular message, he should note that in the message.   Something 
like:

"Please reply directly to <author's email address> as well as to the atm 
list."

Sometimes an author wants to take a particular subject off list.  Then 
the instruction would be:

"Please reply directly to <author's email address> instead of the atm list."
