<< There is a pretty large timber industry in the USA. I would think
someone over there has investigated this. There are some massive
trees there. I cannot imagine how much pitch they produce. >>
Dominic-Luc, The timber over here is processed so fast, the pitch
doesn't have time to leak out. It isn't unusual to see it on the floor
of the home improvement centers (Home Depot, Lowe's), or weeping out of
the studs in new construction. The chief variety grown for construction
is Southern Yellow Pine, which doesn't produce a large quantity of
pitch, from my understanding.
Typical timeline for SYP is 20-25 years from planting to cutting, and 3
months from cutting to sales floor.
Don't get me started on harvesting old growth timber from the national
forrests.
