[ATM] Using brass

3/16" thick strips of cherry 3/4"-1" wide glued together make a very 
nice looking tube. You will have to calculate the angle for the edges 
and make rings (they also serve as baffles) for the glue up. Add a nice 
bit of brass trim (focuser and any fasteners) and you have one sweet 
looking scope. And the weight is not that bad. If weight is a real 
problem switch to pine.
