Is that all the discussion that you could find?  I seem to recall extension
bubblewrap threads over the years.  Several amateurs that I know personally
have used it successfully.  Others have failed.  The devil is in the details
of implementation and engineering.  The killer for me is that an unchanging
focal plane for imaging is difficult to obtain.
