Any plaster is, at least potentially, scratchy stuff so why not try an
alternative that I have found completely satisfactory - auto body filler
(Bondo is the most common brand.) I like the fiberglass-filled variety. It's
strong, stiff, waterproof, grit free and available everywhere.
The only down side is the fumes from the uncured material. Use it outside or
in a well ventilated room.

If the mirror curve is not too deep, a flat base will work but since the
Bondo is easy to cast with the right curve, why take a chance? Just cover
the mirror with plastic wrap or foil or baking parchment (the parchment is
easy to peel away from the Bondo after it cures) build a dam around the
mirror and cast the tool. Be quick. The Bondo, unfortunately, hardens just
as quickly as most plasters.
