[ATM] "Flocking and blocking light"

  Many on this list are more experienced than myself in blocking stray 
light...I would guess it depends on where you are observing...  My thought 
has always been to shield everything along the light train. If you are 
observing in a very dark area, I would asume there would be minimal 
sheilding.
   Most observer's don't experience the "dark skies" on a regular basis.. 
But they all go there sooner or later.. If you observe in an area that has 
light interference from the ground, the stray light is a problem, as are 
street lights, passing autos, and bright porch lights.  But if you are in an 
area that is blessed with darkness at night, I would assume you will need 
very little "flocking" even on an open scope......This does not mean that 
the focuser tube can be overlooked , obviously, your scope should be flat 
black anywhere in the light train....   Russ Jocoy
