Comparing real to simulated Foucault data from
interferometry on the 10 incher with worm tracks.

The above is a real foucault image (left) and one
simulated from high resolution interferometry analysis
(right). I had hoped to get a cleaner version but
this is the best I can do. The grainy pattern in the
simulated Foucault images is the result of my analysis
method. Never the less you can still see similar
features in each one. If you look real carefully on a
good CRT monitor (my LCD monitors usually have to much
contrast) you can see two of the worm tracks. The
easiest to see is the one just to the lower left of
the middle. The very wide worm track is also visible
but takes a little staring. From this I believe the
worm tracks are on the surface. I have measured them
from the data and find them to be about 5 to 15 nm
deep.
Thanks to Steve Koehler for creating the simulated
Foucault and assembling the images for me.
