[ATM] need help with an altitude bearing problem

Patrick,
I hear you. In my 18" ultralight any change of EP
means reacquiring the object, even with high tension
on the altitude pivot. The bigger problem, though, is
having the scope shift slowly because of different EP
weights. My solution was to balance the scope for my
heaviest EP, and add small counterweights to the top
end to balance the lighter oculars.
My impression is that smaller altitude bearings are
more sensitive to balance problems, so maybe
scrounging up a larger laminate-surfaced arc bearing
(a la Kriege and Berry) might help.
