I think Gil is onto something here. In the absence of
velcro, you might consider simply mounting a scrap of
felt or some similar material (with epoxy) to ride
against your steel bearing surface (i.e. adjacent to
your teflon bearing)such that it serves as a brake for
the alt assembly. This worked well on my sons 4.5"
reflector that we rebuilt as a dob. This allows you to
increase friction AND maintain smooth motion.
