If you would like to run some FEA with Algor on this topic, your efforts
would certainly be very useful. Creating the mirror model should be
fairly straightforward, but you will also have to spend some time on
processing the results (removing tilt and focus, and computing RMS
values).

In my opinion the most important result is the table on the Mirror Edge
Support Calculator page in which a dozen support configurations are
compared for a 24"x2" f/3.3 mirror.
This table shows in a nutshell why certain support types are to be
preferred and summarizes the main conclusions of the discussions on the
Bigdob list. Any further validation of the values in this table would
certainly be welcome.
