That may not necessarily be the case.  For example, going
back to the original question (280 mm f/7.5, using only
K5 and F2):

At first, this looked like it would end up being f/8.5 or
so, but it actually could be coerced back to the f/7.5 goal.
It was fussy to optimize, though, so maybe there is something.
