To all on the list,
This has been overstated on this list as far as "Hogging" out a desired "F" depth.
You can grind with a metal tool, You can grind with ceramic tiles, you can grind all day with a glass blank.... Don't waist glass to grind glass in your initial dig for your depth curve.
Use metal, Steel, Large pipe fitting end caps, Grind a hole agressively..Check your curve & don't be afraid...You can't hurt the glass unless you drop it ,or crack it ,because you have not supported it correctly...Don't give the suface any mercy while hogging.. Metal against glass ,with grit..find your curve.. Once you feel you have your desired depth,(measure) Pour a cast of your curve with ceramic tiles and dental stone over the surface of your curve, (use plastic to cover the surface before casting) You now are into the relm of making a sphere out of a "hubcap" (inverted).
I am speeding the process up , but there are many details listed on the internet. I am talking to the "New" Fast Mirror makers..... Slow down.....The best mirror's take time and care to complete, but the "hog out" process is basic grind, grind, grind... Russ
