It will probably take a few 30 to 45 minute sessions to smooth it out, but
you will want to look at it to see how it is progressing. 

Strokes about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long (3 inch maximum) in a W about 2 to 2
1/2 inch wide (1 to 1 1/4 inch each side of center).

Keep the channels in the lap trimmed, press well before working, and stroke
slow. That should smooth it out.
