I use ball valves to adjust the rate of flow of the slurry. Ball valves are
available from Home Depot, Lowes, or HarborFreight Tools. The valve on your
band saw probably is a 1/4"  ball valve and looked like this:

Ball valves come in a variety of sizes from 1/4" to 1" and larger. I have
replaced all the gate valves in my house with ball valves and have used ball
valves with the copper compressed air lines in my shop. Ball valves come in
either NPT threads or my favorite is to sweat solder to copper line. Ball
