[ATM] re spam

Anyone who is getting 100+ spam emails in their account must have a
pretty poor ISP.
My ISP filters most of the spam at source before it even gets to my mail
box.
I have been using the same address for the last 5 years and receive
approx 4 spams a week. Sometimes weeks go by without a single spam then
6/8 arrive.
Usually the Nigerian scams.
I average 50 incoming emails a day.
I am on a reasonably large number of lists for various topics.
I have a reasonably large number of people I regularly email to.
I have had email and internet connectivity since Windows 3.1 and
bulletin boards.
I have java, html, activeX enabled and am connected 24/7 on a 512 ADSL.
My modem has a hardware firewall and I use Nortons Internet security and
am reasonably happy with it.
I used to use Eudora (free) as my email client but have swapped to
Thunderbird.(still free) with its own spam filters (that I do not use)
It is a little easier to set up and does have some extra plugins I find
useful.
I use the internet (research) a lot both at home and work. Even my
Govenment email address gets spammed now and again
I've just googled my email address and recieved 111 hits predominately
from the ATM archives. Are they the main culprit? Somehow I dont believe
they are else I would be getting far more than I am at present.
(Although I expect this will be a red rag to a bull now.)
For those who have a major problem then maybe MailWasher would be a way
out of the jam.
I do not use it my self but have heard good words from the IT people at
work.
Yes it is a problem but to be honest its no worse than traffic jams,
long Q's at the checkout, gov't bureaucracy or any other annoying foible
of modern life.
Lets get back to scopes now.
Kind regards
Charles
