Re protecting coatings for shipment,

I've packed mirrors for shipping that had soft cleats that
supported the surface at the edges, with nothing touching the
mirror surface. For mirrors with central holes, the support
was a round central block with a plastic disk that clamps the mirror
in place, again with nothing touching the mirrored surface.

The mirror should be supported so it can't move relative to its
container, so it won't bounce around inside and maybe get loose.
The exterior box should be rigid, like plywood and with sufficient
room for at least 2" of bubble wrap surrounding the mirror. There
should also be a rigid plate just above the mirrors so the packing material
can't touch the coated surface.
