No amount of proper packaging can help if mirror is
unpacked in transit by untrained or uninformed people.
Especially by security officers eager to uncover last
terrorist tricks .
It was in pre-terrorist days though, that spare mirrors for
spectrophotometers were invariably shipped packed in
transparent containers, perhaps to make it unnecessary
for custom to open them to identify the content.
Maybe it will still be good idea to do something similar
with mirrors. If they can be examined from each side
without opening last container, perhaps investigators will
not open it.
Of course this container must be well packed within strong case
and with dumping material preventing tumbling. This should preferably be
foam tailored to fit or bubble wrap sheets and not loose Styrofoam chips.
Regards
Vladimir.
