Magnetically stabilized levetating secondary mirrors would be cool. As the 
direction of the telewcope changes, the forces would be altered by a 
computer in real-time much like the adaptive optics we have today. These 
would eliminate spider diffraction. Plus it would just be cool

the only real way to eliminate diffraction spikes is to use some method to
"suspend" the secondary without presenting any edges (other than those of 
the
secondary) to the mirror, right?
