[ATM] small diameter, long F.L.

Thanks for all of the fast replies-

Of course  have been watching Surplushed.com, they just did not have what I wanted - this time... But this lens is not an achro, just a simple... I did find  a lens by Melles Griot but for c. $120 which  is a bit pricey for what I have in mind.

The lens design looks good to me, makes me think - -

By the way, whyare we not supposed to discuss design?

Google is sponsoring a contest called Project 10^100. The goal is to
elp as many people as possible. There are several categories, including
ducation. Perhaps some list members would like to invest some energy
nto how we could do an ATM project to educate people about optics
nd/or astronomy, and perhaps win a prize. It could be something like an
nternet enabled telescope (I know that's been done before, but hey,
t'd be fun).
I found out our own Thomas Moulton has entered with a project on solar
nergy, which is quite a cool idea. Go and check it out at
ttp://www.gothim.com/solarsled.html.
So, let's brainstorm some ideas to use our talents, and let's support
ur fellow list members in this endeavor.
Clear skies.

Mike, I'll chuck in a 5.5" minor axis cellular secondary blank, if someone
an grind and figure it. To save on postage etc. I believe that James
ulherin has one of my prototypes kicking around (he was to do some testing
n it, but as far as I know never got the time: James, don't worry, no hard
eelings!).
So if he can find it, it's free for the asking for such a project.
I'll contact James personally to see if he can track down the errant piece
f Pyrex.
Cheers, Thomas Janstrom.

By the way Richard, about 80% of your emails are dropping in my spam

I think you have your work cut out finding a direct replacement. If
you want to have a go at making your own you could try :

 Surf Radius Thickness Glass Diameter

  STO 677.7159 8.5 N-BK7 42

    4 Infinity 1034.873 42
nteresting. I had just found a solution to a
early [green] aplanat with the minimal inter-lens
pacing (that could then be set to zero). Then, I
ooked at this problem from a different perspective.
f the lens were designed for green aplanatism, what
ould the color correction be for a given glass
ombination. The closest I could come to canonical
C correction (with the first lens being BK7) was:
42 mm f/24.8 Doublet
S: 0.9681 to 0.9291 at 0.150 mm shift
Surf Radius Thickness Glass Diameter
OBJ Infinity Infinity 0
STO Infinity -0.3484371 42
  2 633 4.2 N-BK7 46
  3 -464.5 3 N-SF5 46
  4 -1401.5 1038.282 46
IMA -339.58 42
At about f/18 or so (I didn't check too hard.), the
C crossover is within the aperture. About half
hat, the crossover is at the 70% point.
Oops! I forgot... we weren't supposed to discuss
esign here.

the kiln shelf keep the blank from heating in the center of the mirror
from the bottom up and just heated from the top, trapping air in side the
glass. Two days left on run will power wash blank then melt it will take
another 9 days to complete the next run.
are the bubbles really going to make any difference or are you just looking for
 "perfect" pour?
FWIW: you may not be able to get those bubbles to rise out without some sort of
ssistance... that assistance could be vibratory or it is possible that you need
to heat your material more so that it has a lower viscosity and the bubbles can
ise on out...
