Remember that the eye has two sets of detectors, a B&W set for
fine and faint vision and a set of RGB detectors for color
reception.  Also note that due to the action of the eye lens
system, the position of all of these detectors are not next to
each other necessarily, the focus angle for red is a fair bit
different than that of blue.
Finally, don't forget that not everybody sees color the same way.
Colorblindness also takes many forms.  It may even be just that
the person doesn't see red brightly or to the full range as one
guy I know.
