Gorilla glue test conditions.
Curing temperature, 55F or 68F.
Relative humidity 40% to 70%.
Clamp times exceeded 5 hours.
Cure times exceeded 34 hours.
Airing times 5 to 7 minutes, 2 minutes (oddly, the best result).
Lowest yield point 138.2 lbs/in^2
Highest yield point 144.6 lbs/in^2
The linked photo is a portion of a frame from an mpg that captured the reading on a strain gage during the catastrophic failure of a glued joint. In that case a half inch diameter oak dowel cut and reassembled with gorilla glue disassembled under 28.40 lbs. of force.
Holding on to optics I think is best done with Salastic in combination with hard points. Some epoxies are also an excellent choice. There might be a place for a weak irregularly foaming glue, it is very sticky.
People love, people hate it. I like it, I use. It has its limits.
Anthony
