    Nitrol wire is nice when you aren't going fast with the
actuation but a solenoid is a fair bit faster.  Of, course, the
solenoid is a either/or position device while the wire can be
controled with the amount of current through it for any position
desired.  Also, the wire will need to e protected from stray air
currents as it is balanceing the heat generated vs. the heat
dissapated.
Another sournce of  servomotors, etc. , is the old C-band antenna
systems.  There was a servo like the model airplane servos that
positioned the antenna (not the big reflector!) to handle the
horizontal and vertical orientations of the incoming signals.
Generally, you can buy a servo for less than just the motor
unless you find the motor on the suplus market.
